09:49 pm: Goals to accomplish before the end of the year:

1.) Become more present focused
2.) Find one thing in my life that doesn't cause me stress
3.) Go more than two successive days without eating ice cream
4.) Pass two sections of the CPA exam and be ready to take the third
5.) Don't get fired
6.) Realize that being alone is not only okay, it is in fact healthy and productive
7.) Find something that I truly enjoy doing for me, and not because I think it will make someone else happy
8.) Call my mummy and daddums at least 3 times per week

Now....GO!!

07:29 am: So much has happened since my last real update...brief summary: I graduated, got a real job, moved out of my parents house, and left all the people who have become like family for the past four years. Yeah, that about covers it.

It's pretty lonely here...all the people I've met at work have been great, but I don't feel that I can truly become good friends with someone I work with- it's just too complicated. Rachel and Ed are here, but they just got engaged and thus need a lot of space and alone time. They're meeting people from med school who are nice, but it's hard not to feel a little left out when they all share one single common bond. Getting the picture??

It would help if I could talk to Tom, but he's miles away and barely has time to say hello, let alone listen to me whine about how much I miss everyone. There's more than just miles separating us at the moment.

Bottom line: all this newfound wealth from having a real job certainly does not buy happiness. I'd trade a month's salary for a night out with everyone from school.

So yeah, that's about it...my life is pretty uneventful right now. The highlight of my month was reading Harry Potter. and going to a Shock game. and both were pretty much amazing...and seeing a 3 month old puggle puppy- subsequent plots of kidnapping her are in the works...

07:01 am: Hello, my name is Sarah and I have a sugar addiction...
I have decided to give up sweets (aka the majority of processed sugar) for Lent. Now you may be asking yourself why an atheist would be giving up something on this religious holiday of fasting and sacrifice. Well let me tell you:

It is true that I am not undergoing this feat in an attempt to bring myself closer to God. Nor am I taking on this challenge to "slim down for Spring Break" or bikini season or other such nonsense. My reasons are much more simplistic.

I am addicted to sugar...that's all there is to it. Over the past few months I have gradually consumed larger and larger amounts until today, 3/4 of my daily calories now come from candy, cookies, ice cream and the like. It has gotten to the point where eating the crap makes me physically ill and I have no desire to do so, yet I continue with trend. Why? Because I am addicted. This is my sad fate.

Anyone who knows me understands that I am a bit of a health freak. I work out compulsively and until the sugar addiction took over was pretty much obsessive about what i put into my boday. I felt good, looked better, and was a genuinely much pleasanter person to be around without the emotional highs and lows that come from blood sugar rushes and crashes. I miss feeling that way and would like to get back to it.

Thus, Lent is the perfect excuse. Usually at meals and snacktime and people offer you desert, you are practically forced to accept. Otherwise you get the "oh my gosh, why are you dieting, you must be anorexic" speech...incredibly annoying. But if I can say "I gave it up for Lent," I highly doubt I will hear "Let me help you break a promise to God." Therefore, this is as good a time as any to try.

Mind over matter...I will not let the processed foods industry triumph over willpower!!! So please, anyone who reads this, DO NOT under any circumstances buy me sugar, offer to take me for ice cream, eat it in front of me while waving it in my face, etc...that will only make it worse.

09:25 am: i can't remember a time when i've ever been this happy...

January 8th, 2007

07:12 am: Well here's a slight update of my progress on new year's resolutions:

1.) Floss everyday- 6 out of 7 days
2.) Spend as much time with my roomies as possible...it's our last semester! and then I ended up going to bed at like 10:30 while they were all talking downstairs...basically I'm failing
3.) Tell Thomas everyday how much I love him- well, he helps make sure this one gets done by telling me first
4.) Act like a grownup- I gave up at 12:30 when someone broke out bubble solution and blow pops...it's never going to happen
5.) Overcome strange diamond and sparkly jewelry obsession- ooh look at that ring!! again, doubtful if that will ever happen
6.) Drive the speedlimit- do people actually do this?? how do they ever get where they're going??

Conclusion: My sentiments for the past 10 years are actually correct. If you need a new year as an excuse and motivation to change, you're destined to fail. except for flossing. my gums will thank 2007

02:15 pm: It's almost turkey day!!
Things proven to change the course of Thanksgiving

1. During the middle of the meal, turn to mom and say, "See mom, I told you they wouldn't notice that the turkey was four months past its expiration date. You were worried for nothing."

2. When everyone goes around to say what they are thankful for, say, "I'm thankful I didn't get caught" and refuse to say anything more.

3. Load your plate up high, then take it to the kitchen, toss it all in the blender, and take your "shake" back to the table. Announce that it's the new Thanksgiving Weight Loss Shake

4. Prepare a several hour long speech to give when asked about your thankfulness. If necessary, insist that no one leave or eat until you have finished the speech.

5. Bring along old recorded football games and pop them in the VCR when dad's not looking. Make sure it is set to the last two minutes of the game when he comes into the room, turn off the VCR, and then turn on the regular TV.

6. Bring a date that only talks about the tragic and abusive conditions known to exist at turkey farms. Request that she bring photos.
